the moon took something from me

I looked up at the sky to find her smiling.

Full moon, so bright and indifferent to me.

I thought to myself she was linked to my body,

I though of her as a gift, an omen, a sign.

I expected her to give, instead she took something.

She took hope and a promise,

She took sleep and my youth,

She took everything and nothing.

White, fat and smiling. So indifferent to my pleas

Cocooned, February family self portrait

Before the rebirth came the cocoon, the process of locking ourselves up in this alternate limbo, away from the stress of every day life, away from the "urgent" distractions, from habits and routines.  I like this photo because it has a 'paparazzi' feel to it, mostly due to the fact that we had just been told we had to move out of the room and I wanted to get the photo done before, but it's come out looking like someone surprised us, caught us off-guard, slightly resistant to the photo, even thought we are actually posing for it.

Lake Atitlan, Guatemala

Intoxicating aromas
Harmonies of vivid colors
Sinking in my karma coma
Makes the soul come out and holler

Harmonies of vivid colors
Wash away the city's grey
Where the soul just wanna holler
And the heart sigh in dismay

Wash away the city's grey
And breathe some beauty in my thoughts
So that my heart jumps up to play
And blows away the blues it brought

The breath blows beauty in my thoughts
And skims the surface of the lake
And blows away the blues I brought
Crowned by mountains, smoke and quake

I swim the surface of the lake
Sinking in my karma coma
From the mountains, smoke and quake

Intoxicating aromas

The family self portrait  project started in January 2011.
I take one portrait of the whole family, myself included, once a month.
The poem is a 2013 addition by a "ghost" writer

Every family should do this.

In late 2013 a "ghost" writer joined the initiative and now each photo is accompanied by a poem.
